Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody is known for his endurance over the course of long tours, but even he was surprised to find out that he’d been singing with a dislocated jaw for the past eight years.
According to a recent interview with the UK’s Daily Record, the singer claims his jaw had been a source of constant pain ever since a violent fall at a Glasgow nightclub. Though the incident landed Lightbody in the hospital, he managed to avoid getting x-rays until the pain became unbearable.
He is currently receiving treatment for the injury and plans to make all scheduled appearances with [lastfm]Snow Patrol[/lastfm] this summer.
“Because of my previous night’s behavior to the nursing staff, the only thing they wanted was rid of me so there were no head x-rays taken,” Lightbody told the Daily Record. “Let me be clear right now, I am not annoyed with the nurses at all. I am only ashamed of myself, not annoyed with them.
He went on to explain that a busy schedule, combined with a distaste for hospitals kept the ailment undiagnosed for years.
“A few years after that incident, my jaw started to get sore and has been a source of pain for years. I have seen all kinds of people about it. My mistrust of western medicine meant, though, that never once did I get it x-rayed.”
