A driver working for Carrie Underwood’s Play On tour was killed in a horrific car accident over the weekend while en route to the country star’s Saturday night concert at Foxwoods Casino’s MGM Grand Theater in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The unnamed driver was headed down Interstate-95 in Stonington when the truck veered into a guardrail, which cut open the tractor-trailer’s gas tank, leading to a fiery explosion.
The Hartford Courant reports that the truck was engulfed in flames before it careened into a bridge abutment. The driver’s body was reportedly charred so badly that he will have to be identified by his dental records.
Underwood, who went forward with her concert, sang “Temporary Home” as a tribute to the slain driver during the show.
“This song has a whole new meaning for us,” she told the audience.
