Green Day has been slapped with a lawsuit by a Los Angeles-based artist who claims that the group made unauthorized used his work during recent concerts as well as in videos and on the web.
Dereck Seltzer claims to have copyrighted a cartoon-like portrait used as part of a backdrop by the punk mega-stars and that he never gave [lastfm]Green Day[/lastfm] permission to use it. In a statement to TMZ.com, however, the band’s lawyer said they got the image “from a responsible company and was unaware that there could be any copyright or other issues.”
In other news, Green Day’s successful American Idiot could be headed to the silver screen, directed by none other than Tom Hanks. A new report from Variety claims that Hanks and his Play Tone production company are currently pursuing the film rights to the 2004 story and may be in talks with Julia Roberts to play the female lead.
American Idiot will also make its debut as a Broadway musical next month.
