Sarah McLachlan, longtime leader of the Lilith Fair concert series, held a press conference before a recent performance, where she presented a check for $13,142 to the North York Women’s Shelter.At the conference, the Canadian singer/songwriter was asked about the tour’s financial success and what she thinks will be in store for future Lilith Fairs.

[lastfm]Sarah McLachlan[/lastfm] responded: “Yes, we’ve had drawbacks, but I’m having an amazing time. I’ve tried to put the financial stuff on a shelf . . . we started out with a big bang with more than 100 artists. I think next year, I will pare that back a bit.”

She went on to say: “We came into this in a tough economic climate, and we did not know how challenging it would be. But to look out there and see every one of those fans watching in the pouring rain, there is a real power you get from that.”

McLachlan just released her seventh studio album, Laws of Illusion, on June 15. She expects to hit the road for a tour in support of the offering later this year.
