In another daring feat of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beyoncé[/lastfm] ballads, the oft-times feminist songwriter unveiled her second single from 4 this morning: “Best Thing I Never Had.”
Channeling her feisty Sasha Fierce instead of her love vulnerable Bey, “Best Thing I Never Had” is a love song to…not being in love.
If she wasn’t madly in love with Hova, we’d think her love life was the most tragic, temperamental experience full of a plethora of abuses prompting Beyoncé to “take a stand.”
A sampling of the lyrics show another fed-up Beyoncé:
I wanted you bad/I’m so through with it/Cuz honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had/You turned out to be the best thing I never had/And I’m gon’ always be the best thing you never had/I bet it sucks to be you right now
With some of her best, most raw vocals to date and the “innovative” subject, this anti-love love ballad should be a sonic shining star.
However, there is something about the average mid-tempo beat that puts us into a pop lull.
- Beyoncé is definitely a diva in “Best Thing I Never Had,” but is this song a dud? Let us know in the comments!
