Carly Rae Jepsen recently visited 92.3 NOW/New York and shared her thoughts on fame as well as her experience singing and creating music with fellow Canadian Pop Star Justin Bieber. She confessed that music wasn’t the career expected of her. In fact, her grandfather thought she would be a golf star.
“On the day I was born, my grandfather had a dream that I was going be a world famous golf champion and I disappointed him.”
With over 22 million views on her music video for “Call Me Maybe” Jepsen is far from a disappointment. She got her start on Canadian Idol and never imagined her current success. “This entire experience is beyond any of my wildest dreams,” she said. “I wake up pinching myself actually.”
Instead of hitting the green, Carly Rae is hitting the music scene and everyone is catching the “Call Me Maybe” bug. Several fan-made videos have surfaced on the internet thanks to a homemade dance party video made by Bieber, Selena Gomez and their friends.
Bieber first heard Carly on the radio in Canada and told his manager about the song. One month later Carly received news from her record label that would change her life. Bieber and his manager approached the label about spreading her music worldwide.
“I repeat that story to you right now and I still can’t believe it happened,” she said.
Jepsen’s fans have contributed to her success, often making fan videos that have spanned the globe. One fan asked Jespen what her favorite aspect of her career has been so far.

“I love music, I love singing and I love writing but I also love traveling. And this experience has been able to combine all of my passions into one crazy adventure,” she said. “I do miss my family and I miss my friends. But, they’re all really excited for me. We have this new thing where we call them ‘tea dates.’ We’ll make a time to go and have a coffee phone date. It’s a way to keep in touch.”
Jepsen is currently collaborating with Bieber in the studio, but couldn’t give too many details away.
“I pinky swore I would not spill the beans but I really want to,” she said. “It’s kind of just a chill song. I think it’s sweet.”
Carly Rae Jepsen’s album will be released this fall.
