Gaithersburg, MD based Syzygy Events International has designed and produced the 9th annual National Butterfly Gala benefitting the Lupus Foundation of America. The Gala is a national awards dinner that honors individuals who are considered champions for those living with lupus and their loved ones. The butterfly which is a symbol of Lupus Awareness has become a tattoo phenomena at this local company. At last count 7 employees have decided to get a butterfly tattoos in support of bringing awareness to Lupus.

Julie Shanklin, Founder of Syzygy Events International, first became involved in the National Butterfly Gala in 2007, around the same time her adult daughter Shannon was diagnosed with a skin version of Lupus. For five years Julie has passionately devoted herself to the Butterfly Gala, transforming it into a major philanthropic event in DC. Each year Julie has increased Syzygy’s involvement in designing the event. This is the second year they have donated 100% of their services in-kind to the Foundation.
