Matchbox Twenty is making a huge comeback reuniting after a five year “coffee break” with the new hit “She’s So Mean” – a fresh new, “driving-with-your-windows-down, on-the-way-to-the-beach, belting-every-word” type of hit.
“It’s fun, for lack of a better word,” says frontman Rob Thomas. “I mean, it’s kind of a sense of frivolity. We’re not taking ourselves very seriously on this song. We wanted to just come out with something that seemed like a good summer song and not try to get too serious right off the bat.”
It’s a refreshing return to simpler roots for a band that’s been together for 17 years – a journey that started back in 1995 in the sunny weather of Orlando, Florida, and though they haven’t come out with a new album since 2002, the long awaited CD North promises to land the band right where they left off.
“We never felt like we broke up,” Says Thomas. “We never felt like we were one of those bands that said, ‘Ok we’re going to break up now and now we’re going to get back together.’ We were always a band and I never felt like, ‘Rob Thomas formerly of Matchbox Twenty.’ We just all knew that I was going to make another solo record… for us it was like a little break.”
