‘Duets’: The Party’s Over For Robin Thicke

2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

After losing the first contestant last week, “Duets” attempted to boost moral this week with a night dedicated to party songs.

With one partner gone, fans wondered if self-proclaimed underdog Robin Thicke would be able to bounce back from the loss of Alexis Foster.

The night started with Kelly Clarkson’s partner, Jason Foster, who had to fight for his life last week. But this time around he was able to shake his nerves for a soulful performance of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. Team KC’s other contestant, Jordan Meredith, who showed her fiery side with Miranda Lambert, kept things sultry with her countrified take on Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll.” Even though her performance got so-so reviews, Jennifer Nettles offered her an important piece of advice about her footwear: “If you don’t want to wear those high heels, don’t wear ‘em!”

Nettles’ partners continued their reign of the top with J Rome (again) at number one with his version of Michael Jackson’s “PYT.” John Glosson stepped out of his choir boy comfort zone and rocked out to “Life Is A Highway,” leaning more towards the Rascal Flatt’s cover than the Tom Cochrane original.

John Legend’s partner, Bridget Carrington showed off her vocal abilities with the late Donna Summer’s disco hit “Last Dance,” but Legend’s other partner, Meleana Brown, struggled with Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” With the singer sitting right there, Brown admitted her nerves might have gotten the best of her.

Thicke and Olivia Chisholm landed in the bottom spot with a slow version of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” putting her up against Meleana for an a cappella sing-off.

Legend’s girl tackled Whitney’s “Saving All My Love For You,” while Chisholm took on “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. In the end, Chisholm was sent home, leaving Thicke without a partner -  and on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Next week the contestants will perform classic songs from movies. It’s also the last episode before the show goes live and America gets to weigh in on which superstar team deserves to win.
