Jill’s House is a phenomenal organization helping families and children with intellectual disabilities that is one of its kind. This organization is located in Vienna, Virginia, and works to help create a place where children with intellectual disabilities can get together, and parents can have a small break.

Yet, at the same time their children look forward for to a ‘slumber party’ at Jill’s House because this is a place where these children can call their own, and bond with other children who are in similar situations.

Jen Richer had a chance to talk to Denise Daffron from Jill’s House. She described the Jill House experience as “transformational” and life changing.

She reminded us that there is a lot of simple daily tasks that we take for granted saying,

“For many of us going to buy shoes is an easy thing…they can’t do that.”

So, Jill’s House reaches out for parents of these children and lend their helping hands, inviting their children to come stay the night.

Over the time of the children’s stay birthday’s have been celebrated, close friendships have been made, and memories of one’s first time experiencing the freedom of water have been created.
