The Georgetown Washington University Mobile Mammography Unit is an organization that was created to help women detect breast cancer in its early stages. It also provides education and support to women within the DC Metropolitan area. The program started in 1996 with the help of the Cancer Research Foundation of America. Since it’s a mobile unit, it travels to various corporates and community units daily to offer screenings. The great aspect of this program is being able to provide this service to women, regardless of her financial status.
Directly from their website, the Mobile Mammography Program follows a strict quality control philosophy. The program features:
- A state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit
- Friendly, reassuring, knowledgeable, and highly experienced female radiological technologists who are board certified and hold advanced certification in mammography
- Interpretation of exam results by a dedicated breast board-certified radiologist
