Ahoy there, me matey!

Every time you think of the word pirate, you immediately start thinking about Johnny Depp‘s stellar performance in the hit Disney movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, where he played trickester, Captain Jack Sparrow. Although we enjoyed watching the film, how many of you were confused by the pirate lingo? Well, be confused no more. Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day and we are going to help you learn how to talk like a pirate.

Davy Jones’ Locker – a famous phrase known as the bottom of the sea referring to the death of sailors and pirates.

Ahoy! - Hello and sometimes used to say goodbye

Avast – Look here or get a load of this.

Go on Account - To embark on a piratical cruise.

Shiver Me Timbers! - An expression used in shock and generally screamed out for attention

Doubloons - Gold

Matey or Me Matey - A shipmate or a friend/my shipmate or friend.

Yo-ho-ho - The famous pirate laughter

Lass - Woman

Walk the plank -  this one be bloody obvious

Booty – Treasure
