Part 2: Success Starts with Goals

There is nothing more intimidating than rolling to the gym to workout in a worn out T-shirt, hair looking eight shades of disgusting and tennis shoes that have been make-shift chew toys for my puppy — and meeting my new trainer, Dennis, who could easily be mistaken for Adonis, the Greek God.

This is my new gym buddy as I strive to lose 30 pounds before my 30th birthday in December.

Within two minutes of talking with Dennis, it became obvious that he — like everyone I’ve met at 24 Hour Fitness — really knows what he’s talking about.

My first task was not to throw me right into a workout, but to figure out my fitness goals.

We went through a series of tests to see what I’m able to do and what I need to work on.

My first goal had nothing to do with pounds or inches … and had everything to do with building a solid foundation, by knowing how do work out the right way.

One goal he mentioned was my tight hips.

I thanked him for the compliment at first, thinking I nailed the move. He laughed — apparently that’s something for the ‘needs improvement’ column.

Well, Dennis, we certainly have our work cut out for us.

And I will be sure to upgrade the yoga pants for our next session!
