What You Should Know About ‘Mutt Flu’
Everyone is quick to remind me of the importance of getting a flu shot, and to point out the zillions of places where they are available.
But what about Fido?
Canine Influenza has caused trouble for many pets and their owners in the DMV.
I took Chip McFLY for his regular vaccinations Wednesday and when his vet, Dr. Katy Nelson, asked if I wanted a shot too, I was completely in the dark.
“Chip is a very social dog,” Nelson told me. “He’s planning to spend Fridays playing at doggie daycare with his friends, and he’s always out and about coming into contact with unknown pups. For dogs with an active social life like Chip, this is definitely a vaccine that should be considered, especially in light of the recent outbreaks nearby.”
If your pup is a party animal, you might want to consider it as well.
“Clinical signs of CIV can be confused with Kennel Cough, so diagnosis can be difficult.”
