With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, love is in the air, flowers are taking over grocery stores and chocolate is in high demand.  But for those of you who don’t have someone to dote on you hand-and-foot on the day of love, we suggest popcorn, wine and one of these great romantic comedies.

Kelly Collis picked her 10 favorite romantic comedies… with a twist.  These 10 movies aren’t necessarily the typical rom-coms but still have an underlying love theme.

1. Say Anything

This is the classic 80s movie with John Cusack holding a boom box over his head to make the girl fall in love with him.  This made Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” become the soundtrack to any lovesick teenager.

2. Jerry Maguire

Hello, Tom Cruise saying “you complete me” with tears in his eyes can make any girl swoon.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hebpurn, a little black dress, sunglasses, a New York Taxi, a ring – all this gets the guy. Take note, ladies!

4. Air Force One

A President that loves his country and protects his wife and daughter at the same time is sexy.

5. An Affair to Remember (Annette Benning version)

A man leaves all his wealth for a woman he spent just a few days with but the real stickler is that he stays with her and still loves her after she gets crippled.

6. When Harry Met Sally

Do you think guys and girls can be friends? This movies follows two best friends that fall in love in New York, proving that male and female friends cannot JUST be friends.

7. Casablanca

This black-and-white classic stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman who fall in love while in Paris, the city of love.

8. Notting Hill

“After all, I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” Enough said.

9. Pretty in Pink

A rich guy falls in love with a girl from the wrong side of the tracks and it’s easy to see why Molly Ringwald became every teen boy’s crush – plus Andrew McCarthey was the ultimate 80s heartthrob.

10. Despicable Me 2

Okay, this one is the ringer.  The ultimate bad-guy-turned-proud-papa falls in love with a girl that is equally as cunning but on the other side of the tracks – doing things for good.
