It is hard to believe my radio career is coming up on its third anniversary. Every day I consider myself lucky to work with Tommy and Jen and the team at 94.7 Fresh FM. As we prep for our anniversary party this Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Carmine’s in Penn Quarter (come one, come all, no RSVP needed), I started reflecting on the past three years with Fresh.
So, I picked a few of my favorite moments spent with the Fresh Family.
1. Nats Clubhouse
I have been a die-hard Nats fan since they came to D.C. in 2005. Attending games and following the team is one my family’s favorite pastimes. Jen and I first visited the Nats
Locker Room Clubhouse in 2012, just after they clinched the NL East title and were preparing for their first time in the playoffs. We interviewed a few players, including my personal favorite pitcher Drew Storen. We even had a chance to talk to Jayson Werth and Michael Morse.
2. Circus Walk
Fresh FM partnered with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 2012. When the circus came to town, they threw a huge parade through D.C. and Fresh’s trucks were in the parade. Being a native Washingtonian, I never thought I would have the opportunity to walk down Constitution Avenue along side elephants and clowns. I also never thought I would interview a real clown.
3. Interviewing Sarah Ferguson
One of my first interviews on the show was with a Royal. As a little girl, I was obsessed Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. She is completely down to Earth and is no stranger to the games exes play in relationships. She came on the show to promote her show which chronicled her journey to rebuild her life and career. She offered me some sage advice on how to deal with tough relationships and gave me personal advice on how to deal with my ex-husband. I still can’t believe this interview happened when we were just a month old on-air. If you want to listen, the podcast is here.
After a terrible divorce and years on the dating scene, I met my future husband in 2012. My Stedman became the love of my life and set up a proposal that was very romantic and unforgettable. Thanks to the help of our program director, the band Train participated in the proposal. It was such a special moment.
One of the most amazing parts of the job on the radio is meeting new people from all over the D.C. area. A small mention about my desire to go to prom led me to meet the most amazing family in Silver Spring. Ryan is an autistic boy who had a big desire to go to prom. When he asked, I couldn’t say no. I was honored to go with Ryan to his senior prom in May.
