Diner en Blanc is finally coming to D.C. after the idea debuted in Paris 25 years ago. The private event has traveled to over 50 cities around the globe before landing in the nation’s capital.
If you don’t know what it is, it’s a foodies phenomenon of elegance and style, where dining traditions intersect with funk.
Diner en Blanc is a giant dinner with a hundred of your closest friends. Everyone eats together at an outdoor location somewhere in D.C. and the location is kept secret until hours before the event.
The catch is you must bring your own table, tablecloths, chairs, picnic basket and everything has to be white and a 3-course meal. Wine can be purchased at the event and, no… it does not have to be white. Most importantly, everyone must be dressed in all white from head-to-toe – no cream or ivory. If you do not meet the requirements you will not be permitted to enter the dinner.
You meet your team leader an hour before dinner starts where he/she will take you to the secret location.
I see it as a night of people enjoying a meal outside in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The event is set Sept. 4 and only open to those that have attended a dinner in another city or, in my case, receives an invitation from a former attendee. I’ll report back after and tell you how it goes.
