Fresh Discoveries: A Great Big World, Garbage, and Twenty20

Remember the band Garbage? They have this rockin’ new song out. I’ll be playing that tonight, new music from A Great Big World, local band Twenty20, and former American idol Kris Allen.

Ian and Chad from A Great Big World are close to us here at 94.7 Fresh FM. They even brought up our very own Dana McKay on stage at one of their concerts so her fiancé Rick could propose to her in front of the audience. We’ve done a lot of shows with them over the years and in 2014 Chad announced that he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He wrote a song about his struggle called “Won’t Stop Running”. It’s a song about perseverance, hope, and faith. Hear it tonight!

Imagine a local band of 13-and-14-year-olds whose members are the children of some of President Barack Obama’s top aides – including former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. Another is the son of Obama campaign advisor Patti Doyle. They actually exist. Twenty20 formed in 2011, started out performing cover songs, but the band recently began writing their own original music for their debut EP. The boys attend Sidwell Friends School here in DC. “Lost In The Magic” will play tonight on Fresh Discoveries.

Last week our program director Steve Davis had a special opportunity to go up to New York for an artist showcase to see Swedish artist Léon perform. Her song “Tired of Talking” is about a woman fed up with a man who keeps taking her kindness for weakness. Sound familiar, ladies? Listen for it this evening.

We’ll also find out the top trending songs in Ashburn and the number 1 song in France. It all happens tonight on Fresh Discoveries!
