In Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl (the novel and the hit movie) Amy Dunne unleashes an epic, oft-quoted rant on “cool girls,” the kind of women who are effortlessly funny, easygoing, and satisfying to bros. Meanwhile, she hatches a plot to disappear and frame her husband for her murder. Tove Lo channels that pathology and attitude on her new single “Cool Girl,” especially when she sings “I’m a cool girl / Ice cold, I roll my eyes at you, boy.”
The mid-tempo dance track is another club-ready jam from Lo, whose “Habits” and “Talking Body” established her on the scene. Earlier this year, her duet with Nick Jonas proved genuine chemistry, and the pair have performed “Close” together on a number of occasions.
