Director Ava DuVernay has confirmed the cast of her upcoming adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time,” the 1963 young adult classic by Madeleine L’Engle.
As she announced on Twitter Tuesday, DuVernay cast big names for the roles of the three witches: Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who.
Storm Reid, who played Emily in 2013’s “12 Years a Slave,” will be protagonist Meg Murry. The actors selected for Meg’s brother Charles Wallace and friend Calvin O’Keefe have yet to be announced.
“A Wrinkle in Time” revolves around a young girl whose scientist father has disappeared after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract. Meg encounters three women who whisk her and Calvin away on a interplanetary journey to find her brother and father.
The award-winning novel is the first in L’Engle’s series about the Murry and O’Keefe families.
Winfrey, Witherspoon, and Kaling announced their roles on Tuesday.
Needless to say, excitement is high for the adaptation of a beloved classic.
